Khalsa has always been an artist in a variety of media and began making jewelry in 2002 when she took a metal-smithing class in Colorado. In 2004, Khalsa began focusing on her jewelry as a business and promoting her designs to galleries and stores around the country.

The Halstead Bead Business Grant is a launch pad for new jewelry brands in the fashionable "bridge" jewelry market. Bridge jewelry fills the gap between fine and costume jewelry. It is characterized by moderately priced precious metals like silver and copper along with embellishments such as semi-precious stones, pearls and crystal.
